Oliven

The olive tree dates back to ancient times and is considered an evergreen tree. The first documented plantings of olive trees may have occurred during the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete and are believed to have been growing around 3500 BC. Greek mythology records that Athena, the Goddess of wisdom and peace, struck her magic spear into the Earth, and it turned into an olive tree, thus the location were the olive tree appeared and grew was named, Athena. Few people know that Greece produces almost as much olive oil and more table olives than Italy, but a higher percentage of extra virgen olive oil than any other olive oil producing country - 75% of the total production - and that a large part of the olive oil wich is not consumed by the Greeks is bought up by Italian wholesalers.
